Overview

Under close supervision, the Family Support Worker facilitates staff, family, community, and parent activities. This role also supports the integration of Department of Education, Head Start, and Early Head Start service areas into community development initiatives.

Starting Rate 💵

$19.47 - $21.14 per hour

Responsibilities

  • 🤝 Conduct in-person interviews with each family to verify age, income eligibility, and demographic information. Create and maintain eligibility determination records for all participants.
  • 📞 Perform phone interviews to confirm child's age and eligibility; implement outreach and enrollment activities to meet the needs of eligible families, including pregnant women, children, and children with disabilities.
  • 📝 Oversee the eligibility criteria for children on the waiting list; maintain and update the waiting list regularly.
  • 🚀 Implement recruitment processes and maintain a caseload that meets funded enrollment levels, filling any vacancies within 30 days.
  • 📊 Track attendance for children, contacting families when a child is absent beyond one hour after program start or has unexplained absences. Use attendance data to identify children at risk of missing critical program days.
  • 🔄 Re-engage families when a child's attendance drops, ensuring continuous participation in the program.
  • 📁 Keep accurate eligibility records for enrolled and waitlisted children, accessible for processing and audits.
  • 🤝 Develop and maintain partnerships with outside agencies to facilitate recruitment and services for families.
  • 📅 Attend meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required.
  • 💻 Enter and validate data in the Child Plus system to support accurate tracking and reporting.

Qualifications 🎓

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Within 18 months of hire, obtain credentials/certifications in Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling, or related fields.
  • 1-2 years of clerical and/or administrative support experience.
  • Experience planning activities for agencies or organizations.
  • Experience establishing rapport with diverse families of young children and community agencies.
  • Complete California-mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training and Pesticide Safety Training within 18 months.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data entry software, Child Plus preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work cooperatively with individuals, families, and groups.
  • Strong judgment, planning, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow policies aligned with Head Start Performance Standards and applicable regulations (Title 5, Title 22, etc.).
  • Ability to pass post-offer medical, tuberculosis testing, and obtain necessary clearances (fingerprint, criminal record, sex offender index).
  • Valid driver’s license, proper auto insurance, and vehicle registration to maintain transportation standards.
