The Role 🚀

We are seeking skilled Hebrew transcribers (based in the US, Canada, or EU) to transform audio recordings of native speakers into precise, conventionally formatted written transcripts. Your work will support speech recognition, dialogue, and evaluation systems for major AI laboratories. You will handle a range of audio quality from professional studio recordings to natural, real-world conversational speech.

This position requires expert linguistic judgment—it's not just data entry. Your decisions on orthography, code-switching, speaker attribution, disfluencies, and non-speech events will directly impact the quality of AI models trained on your transcripts.

Dialect and Scope 🗣️

• Language: Modern Hebrew (Ivrit) spoken across Israel
• Speech varies: Daily colloquial speech with awareness of optional niqqud (vowel pointing)
• Regional accents: Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Beersheba, Netanya, Rishon LeZion

What You Will Do 📝

• Transcribe audio recordings into accurate, time-aligned text following Perle’s style guide
• Use proper conventions for speaker identification, overlapping speech, disfluencies, fillers, false starts, and non-speech sounds like laughter and background noise
• Make informed orthographic choices for dialectal, colloquial, and code-switched speech
• Flag ambiguous segments, uncertain speakers, and audio quality issues according to project standards
• Self-review your submissions to meet Perle’s quality standards before delivery
• Collaborate with QA reviewers on challenging cases, calibration, and style updates

Must Have ✅

• Native fluency in Modern Hebrew with extensive residency or immersion in Israel
• High accuracy reading and writing in Hebrew script, with or without niqqud (per project needs)
• Experience transcribing Hebrew-English, Hebrew-Russian, or Hebrew-Arabic code-switching
• Familiarity with both colloquial and formal Hebrew registers
• At least 2 years of professional transcription, captioning, court reporting, broadcast, translation, or linguistic annotation experience
• Proven accuracy under deadline pressure
• Comfort with web-based annotation tools and variable-speed audio playback
• Reliable high-speed internet, quality headphones, and a quiet workspace
• Ability to commit to a defined weekly volume during active projects

Nice to Have 🌟

• Background in Hebrew linguistics, translation, journalism, or media
• Prior experience annotating Hebrew speech data
• Knowledge of Yiddish, Arabic, or Russian for cross-lingual audio tasks
• Familiarity with IPA or other phonetic transcription systems
• Experience with verbatim versus clean-verbatim transcription standards
