What You’ll Do 🤝

A Dual Language Instructional Assistant (DLIA) provides instructional support within Participate’s Mandarin immersion classrooms. You will lead groups across various subject areas, delivering instruction in Mandarin. The lead teacher has primary responsibility for overall class instruction, but in their absence, the DLIA will assume the lead role.

  • Work flexibly across Wake and Cumberland areas, traveling as needed.
  • Support in one or multiple Participate dual language schools within the same area based on coverage needs.
  • This is a part-time role with full benefits, offering 25-40 hours per week depending on demand.

Essential Functions & Instructional Responsibilities 📚

  • Deliver instruction to students using diverse teaching methods to develop language skills and subject objectives.
  • Lead small groups during literacy rotations, implementing appropriate instructional techniques with guidance from lead teachers.
  • Assist in creating lesson plans, instructing students individually and in groups.
  • Establish and enforce classroom rules and behavioral procedures.
  • Prepare classroom materials, photocopy, laminate, and organize resources.
  • Administer assessments and other classroom responsibilities per school policies.
  • Perform administrative tasks typically associated with teaching roles.
  • In the absence of the lead teacher, assume full instructional responsibilities, including:
    • Leading instruction in Mandarin following the designated instructional model.
    • Completing all lesson tasks for the day.
    • Maintaining clear notes on student performance.
    • Following pacing guides for literacy and content areas.

Program Support 🌟

  • Promote cross-cultural activities and foster engagement with the dual language immersion program within the school and community.
  • Act as a native Mandarin-speaking role model, encouraging students to maximize their language learning.
  • Serve as a cultural resource for students, teachers, and the community.
  • Collaborate with other members of the dual language team to enhance program effectiveness.

School-wide Support 🏫

  • Support school policies and procedures across multiple dual language classrooms.
  • Focus primarily on instructional delivery—non-instructional duties are outside the DLIA's scope.
  • In the absence of the lead teacher, prioritize instructional support to help students meet grade-level standards.
