What You’ll Do 🎯
The primary responsibility of a Dual Language Instructional Assistant is to support instruction for students and teachers in Participate's Dual Language Mandarin immersion classrooms. You will:
- Lead groups across various subject areas with instruction delivered in Mandarin.
- Assist the lead dual language teacher, taking over instructional duties in their absence.
- Travel as needed between Wake and Cumberland areas.
Note: Flexibility is required for working across Wake and Cumberland counties.

The DLIA may serve in multiple Participate dual language program schools within the same area, based on coverage needs and under the guidance of the Director of Dual Language Programs or program manager.
This is a part-time position with full benefits; assignments may vary between 25–40 hours per week depending on need.
Requirements & Responsibilities ✅
Essential Functions & Instructional Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction to students using diverse teaching methods to improve language skills and meet curriculum objectives.
- Lead small groups during literacy rotations.
- Collaborate with lead teachers to:
- Create lesson plans and deliver instruction individually and in groups.
- Establish behavior rules and classroom procedures.
- Prepare classroom materials.
- Administer assessments.
- Manage other classroom responsibilities as per school policy.
- In the absence of the lead teacher, take on a lead instructional role by:
- Following the established DL instructional model in Mandarin.
- Completing all instructional tasks for the day.
- Keeping clear records on student performance.
- Adhering to pacing guides for literacy and content instruction.
Program Support 🌐
- Promote cross-cultural activities and support the dual language immersion program within the school and community.
- Serve as a native Mandarin-speaking role model to students.
- Help maximize student learning by consistently using the target language.
- Act as a cultural resource for students, teachers, and the community.
- Collaborate with other dual language team members.
School-wide Support 🏫
- Support school policies and procedures across multiple DL classrooms.
Note: The DLIA is not responsible for non-instructional duties.
While the lead teacher remains the teacher of record, the DLIA plays a vital role in supporting instruction and student records.
Experience & Qualifications 🎓
- Intermediate to high proficiency in English.
- Post-secondary degree in an education-related field.
- At least one year of elementary teaching experience.
- Completion of district HR processes for school volunteer or similar roles.
- Must meet all employment verification and hiring requirements of Participate Learning.
- Authorized to work in the US.
- Successful completion of Participate DLIA program trainings and evaluations.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel between schools.
