Position Overview & Qualifications

As a Driver Examiner, you will be a key part of a professional team supporting the Ministry of Transportation’s DriveTest Centre operations. You will assess driving abilities, conduct tests, and ensure candidates meet safety standards with professionalism and courtesy. About Serco & Our Purpose

Serco supports the Ministry of Transportation through our Driver Examiner Services (DES) contract, facilitating road tests, providing driver information, and assisting applicants through various stages of the licensing process. Our drivers engage with customers in a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional manner, ensuring excellence in service.

Key Responsibilities 📝

  • Customer Service: Deliver exceptional service to all driver examination candidates.
  • Enquiries & Verification: Respond to licensing queries, verify applicant details verbally, and provide test/re-test information.
  • Conduct Tests: Perform road tests to evaluate vehicle handling, compliance with traffic laws, and driving skills, including assessments for special needs or disabilities.
  • Record & Report: Complete evaluation forms, provide detailed feedback, and enter results into systems accurately.
  • Assess & Observe: For M2, M, and controlled class tests, observe riding habits, skills, and operational ability.
  • Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all regulations, policies, and safety protocols, including health and safety standards.
  • Additional Duties: Support licensing events, participate in training, and undertake special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Certifications 🎓

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED minimum)
  • Fluent in both French and English
  • Valid Ontario Class GM driver’s license
  • Minimum of four years driving experience (verified via license)
  • Valid Class M and/or controlled class license, if applicable
  • No more than four demerit points and three violations during employment

Knowledge & Experience

  • Understanding of DriveTest programs, legislation, and regulations is preferred
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated excellent customer service experience

Physical & Working Conditions 💼🚧

  • Moderate mental activity (more than 4 hrs/day) to high intensity (2–4 hrs/day)
  • Moderate physical effort (2–4 hrs/day)
  • Exposure to weather, vehicle operation, and minor hazards
  • Variable hours based on customer demand, including evenings and weekends
  • Participation in training sessions, including classroom and on-the-job shadowing

Additional Requirements & Remarks

  • Successful completion of Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Fingerprint Check
  • Willingness to participate in training, projects, and security protocols
  • Employment is contingent upon passing all training stages
