Job Overview
The District Sales Manager (DSM) is responsible for managing the sales performance of Sales Consultants (SCs), fostering a performance-driven culture, and coaching talent to achieve profitable case and gross profit growth.
Responsibilities
- Manage the performance and development of Sales Consultants (SCs) within the district.
- Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions, averaging 3–5 work-withs per week with SCs.
- Lead and facilitate engaging Friday district meetings to educate, inspire, and drive key behavior changes that boost sales.
- Lead Customer Engagement initiatives by empowering SCs to provide expanded service channels, including technology enablers, value-added services, and team selling.
- Maintain a mindset of continuous improvement across technology, sales skills, soft skills, and product knowledge.
- Utilize sales support resources and tools to maximize consultative selling time.
- Leverage our CRM system for sales planning, prospecting, and customer engagement, with productive use of Sysco 360 among SCs.
- Achieve Sysco brand objectives and manage conversion opportunities within the district.
- Support and promote national campaigns and promotions.
- Provide coaching, training, and timely feedback to develop consultative selling skills in accordance with "The Sysco Way to Sell."
- Use CMP and QPP processes to enhance the performance of all sales colleagues.
- Execute territory planning and management effectively.
- Prioritize relationships with top customers and high-value prospects.
- Champion company initiatives and implement the center-led strategy within the district.
- Perform additional operational duties and manage customer relationships as needed.
Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in successfully growing profitable sales in the food service industry.
- 5+ years' food service sales experience preferred.

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Capability to derive insights through probing questions and collaborative problem-solving.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, capable of handling multiple initiatives independently.
- Thrives in fast-paced environments.
- Proficiency with Sysco’s CRM tools for sales planning and forecasting.
- Expertise in consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching, and negotiations.
- Ability to coach, counsel, train, and motivate associates effectively.
- Experience in supervising and motivating teams.
- Strong report writing and business correspondence skills.
- Skilled in developing new business, penetrating existing accounts, and minimizing loss to achieve sales objectives.
- Ability to research customer needs and develop tailored product/service solutions.
- Stay informed about market trends, product innovations, and competitors’ offerings, sharing insights with customers.
- Excellent communication skills for answering product-related questions and providing practical training.
- Manage accounts receivable, working closely with the credit department to ensure timely collections.
- Coordinate deliveries according to transportation schedules.
