Join Us as the Hebrew Sunday School Director in Kingston, NY - Part-time, $30,000/year

Congregation Emanuel of the Hudson Valley (CEHV), a vibrant Reform synagogue in Ulster County, is seeking a passionate and dynamic Director to lead our Zimet Jewish Learning Adventure (JLA) Sunday school program. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape Jewish education for children from Pre-K through B’Mitzvah in a progressive and engaging environment.

About the Zimet Jewish Learning Adventure (JLA)

The JLA is a beacon of Jewish learning in the Hudson Valley, characterized by a hands-on, progressive curriculum rooted in Hebrew language and Judaics. We are committed to fostering growth, community, and strong Jewish identities through experiential learning and a dedicated educational staff.

Position Overview

Part-time (20-25 hours/week) | Starting Date: July 1, 2026 | Compensation: $30,000 annually

The Director will oversee all aspects of the school, including curriculum review, staff management, student engagement, and strategic growth. This role also involves collaboration with CEHV leadership, educators, clergy, and families to ensure a nurturing and effective educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development & Oversight: Review current curriculum, assess school needs, and implement programs that promote growth and sustainability.
  • Staff Management: Hire, supervise, and support teachers, interns, and volunteers, ensuring appropriate placement and professional development.
  • Enrollment & Community Outreach: Attract new students and families, foster community engagement, and expand school enrollment.
  • Operational Management: Oversee school operations, including registration, records, procurement of materials, calendar planning, and safety guidelines.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Work closely with the Education Committee, CEHV leadership, clergy, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Event Planning & Programming: Coordinate holiday programming such as High Holiday children’s activities, Passover, Purim, and other events.
  • Presence in the School: Maintain an active, visible leadership role during school hours and activities to foster a warm, positive environment.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent Administrative Skills: Supportive supervision and organizational prowess.
  • Curriculum Innovation: Creative, flexible, and experiential curriculum development experience.
  • Openness to Innovation: Embrace new models of Jewish education, including digital and hybrid platforms.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Google Suite, social media, and digital learning tools.
  • Educational Background: B.A./B.S. or higher in education, Judaic Studies, or related fields.
  • Experience: In education administration, curriculum development, and human resources, at departmental or institutional levels.
  • Language & Religious Knowledge: Hebrew and prayer literacy preferred; understanding of Reform Judaism principles.

Work Environment

This role offers the flexibility to work remotely during the week, with required in-person presence at CEHV during school hours and special events.
