Position Overview
Congregation Emanuel of the Hudson Valley (CEHV), a progressive Reform synagogue in Ulster County, NY, is seeking a dedicated Director (20-25 hours/week) for the Zimet Jewish Learning Adventure (JLA). This inspiring Sunday school offers a hands-on, Hebrew, and Judaic curriculum that fosters Jewish identity and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Program Oversight & Curriculum Development
- Review and enhance the current curriculum, aligning with the school’s growth and sustainability goals.
- Assess the school's needs annually and implement progressive educational strategies.
Leadership & Supervision
- Hire, train, supervise, and support teachers, interns, and volunteers, ensuring appropriate classroom placements.
- Attract and retain diverse teachers and new families to grow enrollment.
Community & Collaboration
- Work closely with CEHV leadership, a parent-led education committee, and clergy.
- Coordinate holiday programs and school activities, including High Holidays, Passover, and Purim.
- Participate in Education Committee and Board meetings regularly.
Operational Management
- Manage recruitment, registration, and student records.
- Oversee procurement of educational materials, school calendar, and security planning.
- Ensure a welcoming learning environment grounded in Jewish values and positivity.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Strong administrative skills and supportive supervision abilities.
- Expertise in experiential and innovative Jewish curricula.
- Experience with digital/hybrid learning platforms and social media (Google Suite proficiency preferred).
- B.A./B.S. or higher in Education, Judaic Studies, or related fields.
- Background in Jewish education, curriculum development, and administration.
- Familiarity with Hebrew and Prayer literacy (preferred).
- Understanding of Reform Judaism principles.
Work & Compensation Details
Start Date: July 1, 2026
Salary: From $30,000 per year
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Kingston, NY 12401 – flexibility to work remotely during the week with scheduled in-person sessions.
