🔍 Position Overview
Congregation Beth Shalom, a warm and vibrant Conservative synagogue, seeks an experienced and dynamic Director of Early Childhood Education to lead our Alefbet preschool. The Preschool Director will oversee daily operations, fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate Jewish learning environment for children aged 12 months to 5 years, accommodating approximately 35-40 students. This role combines educational leadership, operational management, community engagement, and a commitment to Jewish values within the Conservative movement.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
📚 Educational Leadership
- Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum aligned with early childhood best practices, infused with Jewish culture, traditions, and values
- Promote social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth in a nurturing environment
- Support and guide teachers in classroom management, lesson planning, and professional development
- Ensure programming aligns with the synagogue’s mission and Conservative Judaism principles
👩🏫 Staff Management
- Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate preschool teachers and support staff
- Foster a collaborative, supportive, and professional staff culture
- Lead staff meetings and facilitate ongoing professional development
👪 Family and Community Engagement
- Build positive relationships with families, serving as a trusted partner in their children’s education
- Organize parent communication, events, and workshops
- Collaborate with clergy and lay leadership to integrate the preschool into the broader community
- Engage families in Jewish holiday and Shabbat celebrations involving children and families
🗃️ Administrative & Operational Management
- Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, licensing, budgeting, and enrollment
- Manage marketing efforts, website, and community visibility
- Ensure compliance with local and state early childhood regulations
- Handle financial responsibilities such as tuition, billing, payroll, and budgeting (collaborating with synagogue administration)
- Maintain health, safety, and emergency protocols
🎓 Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field required; Master’s preferred
- 3–5 years of experience in early childhood education with supervisory or administrative roles
- Deep knowledge of early childhood development and play-based learning
- Familiarity with Jewish holidays, rituals, and traditions, particularly within Conservative Judaism
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Warm, approachable, and collaborative leadership style
🌟 Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a Jewish preschool or synagogue setting
- Understanding of kashrut, Shabbat observance, and synagogue community practices
- Familiarity with Judaic curriculum resources and Hebrew language integration
- Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, leadership, and committees
