Job Overview
The Director for Global Defense - Japan is tasked with leading and expanding Oracle's defense and national security business in Japan. You will align with global defense objectives while navigating Japan’s regulatory, security, and procurement frameworks. This role entails developing key relationships with Japan’s Ministry of Defense and agencies, crafting long-term capture strategies, and ensuring the secure delivery of mission-critical outcomes. The position reports to global defense leadership and collaborates closely with Japan’s country leadership, product/engineering, legal, security, and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities 🚀
- Define and execute Japan’s defense growth strategy aligned with global objectives and local market dynamics.
- Identify priority missions, agencies, and modernization programs; establish value propositions emphasizing resilience, sovereignty, and security.
- Build and maintain senior relationships with Japan’s Ministry of Defense (JMOD), Self-Defense Forces, government entities, and defense primes.
- Partner with solution architects and delivery leaders to design secure, compliant solutions including cloud, data platforms, AI/analytics, and cyber security.
- Ensure proposal alignment: meet customer mission needs, local data sovereignty expectations, and accreditation pathways.
- Lead executive communications: deliver presentations and negotiations at the senior level.
- Build strategic alliances with Japanese defense primes, systems integrators, and technology partners for compliant bids and delivery.
- Structure teaming and subcontracting to meet procurement and security requirements.
- Coordinate closely with legal, security, and compliance teams for bid decisions and contract negotiations.
- Influence cross-functional global teams to prioritize Japan’s defense requirements and timelines.
Qualifications 🎓
- More than 10 years of progressive experience in defense/national security government roles, defense industry, or related sectors, with significant exposure to Japan's market.
- Proficiency in Japanese language skills.
- Deep knowledge of Japan’s defense procurement processes, stakeholder landscape, and client ecosystem.
- Strong executive presence capable of engaging C-level leaders, senior civil servants, and prime contractors.
- Proven success in leading teams and influencing complex, matrixed organizations with sound commercial and contractual understanding.
Preferred Qualifications 🌟
- Advanced degree in business, engineering, international relations, or related fields.
- Experience with secure cloud solutions, mission system modernization, cyber security, data/AI, or enterprise platforms within defense environments.
- Existing network across JMOD, SDF, defense primes, and key system integrators.

US hiring range: $109,200 – $223,400 per year, with potential bonuses and equity. Salary ranges may vary based on experience, skills, location, and market conditions.
