Job Overview

The Director for Global Defense - Japan is responsible for steering and expanding our defense and national security business in Japan. This role aligns with global defense priorities, navigates Japan’s regulatory and procurement landscape, and develops high-level relationships with key government agencies and industry partners. Reporting to the global defense leadership, the director will collaborate closely with Japan’s country leadership, product/engineering, legal, security, and delivery teams to ensure mission success.

Key Responsibilities 🚀

• Strategic Planning: Define and execute Japan defense growth strategies aligned with global objectives and market dynamics.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Identify priority missions, agencies, modernization programs, and establish compelling value propositions for defense and security stakeholders, emphasizing resilience, sovereignty, and security.
• Relationship Building: Build and maintain senior relationships with the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), Self-Defense Forces, government entities, and defense primes.
• Solution Design & Delivery: Partner with solution architects and delivery teams to craft secure, compliant solutions (cloud, data platforms, AI/analytics, cyber).
• Proposal & Planning: Ensure proposals and plans meet customer mission needs, data sovereignty expectations, and follow accreditation pathways.
• Executive Engagement: Lead presentations and negotiations at the executive level.
• Strategic Alliances: Develop partnerships with Japanese defense primes, system integrators, and technology providers for compliant bids and delivery.
• Procurement & Security: Structure teaming, subcontracting, and coordinate with legal and security teams for bid decisions, due diligence, and contracts.
• Cross-Functional Influence: Collaborate globally to prioritize Japan-specific defense requirements and timelines.

Qualifications ✅

• 10+ years of progressive experience in defense, national security, government, or defense industry roles, with significant exposure to the Japanese market.
• Proficiency in Japanese language skills.
• Deep understanding of Japan’s defense procurement processes, stakeholder landscape, and partner ecosystem.
• Executive presence with the ability to engage C-level leaders, senior officials, and prime contractors.
• Proven success leading teams and influencing matrixed organizations, with strong commercial and contractual acumen.

Preferred Qualifications 🌟

• Advanced degree in business, engineering, international relations, or related fields.
• Experience with secure cloud, mission systems modernization, cyber, data/AI, or enterprise platforms within defense environments.
• Existing network within JMOD, SDF, defense primes, and key systems integrators.
