Job Overview
The Director for Global Defense - Japan is responsible for spearheading Oracle's defense and security business within Japan. This role involves establishing key relationships with governmental agencies, shaping long-term strategies, and ensuring secure and compliant delivery of solutions. Reporting to the global defense leadership, the director collaborates closely with Japan's country leadership and cross-functional teams including product, legal, security, and delivery groups.
Key Responsibilities 🔑
- Strategy Development: Define and execute Japan’s defense growth strategy aligned with global objectives and market dynamics.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Identify priority missions, agencies, and modernization programs; develop value propositions emphasizing resilience, sovereignty, and security.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain senior-level relationships with the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), Self-Defense Forces, government entities, and defense primes.
- Solution Design & Delivery: Partner with solution architects to create compliant, secure solutions (cloud, data platforms, AI, cyber) aligned with mission needs and sovereignty requirements.
- Proposal & Negotiations: Lead high-level presentations and negotiations ensuring alignment with customer needs and accreditation pathways.
- Strategic Alliances: Build partnerships with Japanese defense primes, system integrators, and technology vendors to enable compliant bids and delivery approaches.
- Team & Contracting: Structure teaming arrangements, manage subcontractors, and coordinate with legal and security teams for bid decisions and contracts.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Influence global teams to prioritize Japan defense timelines and requirements.
Qualifications 🎓
- 10+ years of progressive experience in defense, national security, or related government roles, with significant exposure to the Japan market
- Proficiency in Japanese language
- Deep understanding of Japan’s defense procurement ecosystem, stakeholder landscape, and partner networks
- Strong executive presence and experience engaging with C-level leaders, military officers, and government officials
- Proven success leading teams and managing cross-functional organizations; commercial and contractual acumen
Preferred Qualifications 🌟
- Advanced degree in business, engineering, international relations, or related fields
- Experience with secure cloud, defense modernization, cyber, AI, or enterprise platforms within defense settings
- Established network within JMOD, SDF, defense primes, and system integrators

Note: US-facing roles may require compliance with immunization and health mandates. The hiring range in the US is $109,200 to $223,400 annually, with potential bonuses and equity.
