We are seeking a strategic leader to spearhead our defense and national security initiatives in Japan, fostering relationships and delivering impactful solutions aligned with global and local priorities.

Job Description

The Director for Global Defense - Japan is responsible for leading and expanding our strategic defense and national security business within Japan. This role involves aligning with global defense priorities while navigating Japan’s unique regulatory, security, and procurement environment. The director will develop key executive relationships with Japan’s Ministry of Defense and other agencies, shape long-term capture strategies, and ensure the secure delivery of mission-critical outcomes. They will report to the global defense leadership and collaborate closely with Japan's country leadership, as well as product, engineering, legal, security, and delivery teams.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Define and Implement Strategy: Develop and execute Japan defense growth strategies aligned with global objectives and market dynamics. ⚙️
• Identify Priorities: Focus on missions, agencies, and modernization programs that resonate with stakeholders, emphasizing resilience, sovereignty, and security. 🎯
• Build Relationships: Cultivate senior relationships with the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), Self-Defense Forces, and relevant government and defense prime partners. 🤝
• Design Secure Solutions: Partner with solution architects to create compliant solutions such as cloud, data platforms, AI, analytics, and cyber. ☁️🔒
• Align Proposals & Delivery: Ensure proposals meet customer mission needs, data sovereignty expectations, and certification pathways. 📄
• Lead Engagements: Conduct executive presentations and negotiate with defense stakeholders. 💬
• Form Strategic Alliances: Collaborate with Japanese defense primes, system integrators, and technology partners for compliant bids and delivery. 🌐
• Structure Teams & Subcontractors: Develop teaming and subcontracting plans that meet procurement and security standards. 🏗️
• Coordinate Cross-Functionally: Work with legal, security, and compliance teams on bids, due diligence, and contracts. 📋
• Influence Global Teams: Prioritize Japan defense requirements within the broader global organization. 🌍

Qualifications

• Experience: 10+ years in defense, national security, government, or defense industry with significant Japan market exposure. 📅
• Language Proficiency: Working knowledge of Japanese. 🈳
• Understanding: Deep knowledge of Japan defense procurement, stakeholder landscape, and partner ecosystem. 🛡️
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to engage C-level leaders, senior officials, and prime contractors. 🌟
• Organization & Commercial Acumen: Success in leading teams and navigating contractual and commercial aspects. 💼

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (business, engineering, international relations, or related). 🎓
• Experience with secure cloud solutions, mission system modernization, cyber, AI/data platforms, or enterprise defense platforms. 🛠️
• Existing network within JMOD/SDF, defense primes, and key system integrators. 🌉
