📝Job Description

The Director for Global Defense - Japan is accountable for spearheading and expanding the strategic defense and national security business within Japan. The role entails aligning with global defense priorities while navigating Japan’s regulatory, security, and procurement environment. Building executive relationships across Japan’s Ministry of Defense and relevant agencies, the role involves shaping long-term capture strategies and ensuring the secure delivery of mission-critical outcomes. This position reports to the global defense leadership and collaborates closely with Japan country leadership, product/engineering, legal, security, and delivery teams.

🎯 Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Strategy: Define and execute Japan defense growth strategies aligned with global objectives and local market dynamics.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Identify priority missions, agencies, and modernization programs; craft value propositions emphasizing resilience, sovereignty, and security.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain senior relationships with the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), Self-Defense Forces, government entities, and defense primes.
  • Solution Design: Collaborate with solution architects and delivery leaders to design secure, compliant solutions (cloud, data platforms, AI, cyber).
  • Proposal & Delivery Alignment: Ensure proposals meet customer mission needs, data residency/sovereignty expectations, and follow accreditation pathways.
  • Leadership & Negotiation: Lead executive presentations and negotiations with stakeholders.
  • Strategic Alliances: Build partnerships with Japanese defense primes, system integrators, and technology providers for compliant bids and delivery.
  • Team & Contracting: Structure teaming and subcontracting strategies adhering to procurement and security requirements.
  • Coordination & Compliance: Work closely with legal, security, and compliance teams for bid success, due diligence, and contracting.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Influence global teams to prioritize Japan defense requirements and relevant timelines.

🛠 Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years in defense/national security sector, with extensive Japan market exposure.
  • Language skills: Proficiency in Japanese.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of Japan’s defense procurement processes and stakeholder landscape.
  • Leadership: Strong presence and ability to engage C-level executives, senior civil servants, and prime contractors.
  • Organizational Skills: Proven success leading teams and influencing matrix organizations; strong commercial and contractual skills.

⭐ Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in business, engineering, international relations, or related fields.
  • Experience with secure cloud platforms, mission systems modernization, cyber, AI/data, or enterprise defense platforms.
  • Existing network within JMOD/SDF, defense primes, and key system integrators.

Salary Range & Benefits: In USD, from $109,200 to $223,400 per year, with potential bonuses and equity. Oracle offers comprehensive benefits, including:
