The Director for Global Defense - Japan leads the development and execution of Japan's defense growth strategies, ensuring alignment with global priorities while navigating Japan's regulatory, security, and procurement landscape. This role builds and maintains key relationships within Japan's defense ecosystem, shapes long-term capture strategies, and oversees secure delivery of solutions.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute Japan defense growth strategies aligned with global objectives and market dynamics.
- Identify priority missions, agencies, and modernization programs, emphasizing resilience, sovereignty, and security.
- Build and maintain senior relationships with the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), Self-Defense Forces, government entities, and defense primes.
- Partner with solution architects and delivery leaders to design secure, compliant solutions (e.g., cloud, AI, cyber).
- Align proposals and delivery plans with customer mission needs, data sovereignty expectations, and accreditation pathways.
- Lead executive presentations and negotiations with customers.
- Develop strategic alliances with Japanese defense primes, systems integrators, and technology partners for compliant bidding and delivery.
- Structure teaming and subcontracting approaches to meet procurement and security requirements.
- Coordinate closely with legal, security, and compliance teams for bid decisions and contracts.
- Influence cross-functional teams worldwide to prioritize Japan defense needs and timelines.
Qualifications
- 10+ years in defense, national security, government, or defense industry roles with significant Japan market experience.
- Proficiency in Japanese.
- Deep understanding of Japan's defense procurement processes, stakeholder landscape, and ecosystem.
- Executive presence capable of engaging C-level leaders, senior civil servants, and prime contractors.
- Successful leadership of teams and matrix organizations with strong commercial and contractual skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in business, engineering, or international relations.
- Experience with secure cloud, mission systems modernization, cyber, or enterprise platforms in defense environments.
- Existing network within JMOD, SDF, defense primes, and systems integrators.

- US: Salary from $109,200 to $223,400 annually, with potential bonuses and equity.
