Job Overview
The Director for Global Defense - Japan is responsible for spearheading the growth of our defense and national security business in Japan. This role involves aligning with global defense priorities, navigating Japan’s regulatory and security landscapes, and fostering vital relationships with government and industry partners. The position reports to global defense leadership and collaborates closely with Japan’s country leadership, product/engineering, legal, security, and delivery teams.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Define and execute Japan’s defense growth strategy aligned with global objectives and local market dynamics.
- Mission Prioritization: Identify key missions, agencies, and modernization initiatives; craft compelling value propositions centered on resilience, sovereignty, and security.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain senior relationships with the Ministry of Defense (JMOD), Self-Defense Forces, government entities, and defense primes.
- Solution Design: Collaborate with solution architects and delivery teams to develop secure, compliant solutions (cloud, data platforms, AI/analytics, cyber).
- Proposal & Delivery: Ensure proposals and plans meet customer mission needs, local data sovereignty requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Executive Engagements: Lead high-level presentations and negotiations with key stakeholders.
- Partnership Development: Establish strategic alliances with Japanese defense primes, systems integrators, and technology partners.
- Team Structuring: Organize teaming and subcontracting strategies to meet procurement and security standards.
- Legal & Compliance: Collaborate with legal, security, and compliance teams to manage bid decisions, due diligence, and contracts.
- Global Coordination: Influence cross-functional teams worldwide to prioritize Japan-specific defense requirements and timelines.
Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years in defense, national security, government, or defense industry roles with significant experience in Japan.
- Language: Working proficiency in Japanese.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of Japan's defense procurement processes and stakeholder ecosystem.
- Leadership: Demonstrated executive presence and ability to engage C-level leaders, senior civil servants, and prime contractors.
- Teamwork & Commercial Acumen: Proven success in leading teams and influencing complex organizations with strong contractual expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in business, engineering, international relations, or related fields.
- Experience with secure cloud solutions, modernized mission systems, cyber security, AI/data platforms, or enterprise defense platforms.
- Existing network within JMOD, SDF, defense primes, and key system integrators.

Compensation & Benefits 💼
Range: USD 109,200 – 223,400 per annum, with potential bonuses and equity. Salary is commensurate with experience, skills, and market conditions.
