Job Description

The Director for Global Defense - Japan is tasked with steering the growth of defense and national security business in Japan. This involves aligning with global defense objectives while navigating Japan's regulatory, security, and procurement landscapes. The role requires building executive partnerships across Japan’s Ministry of Defense and relevant agencies, shaping long-term strategies, and ensuring secure mission delivery. The position reports directly to the global defense leadership and collaborates closely with Japan's country leadership, product/engineering, legal, security, and delivery teams.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute Japan's defense growth strategy aligned with global objectives and market dynamics 🇯🇵
• Identify priority missions, agencies, and modernization programs, establishing resonant value propositions emphasizing resilience, sovereignty, and security 🔍
• Build and maintain senior relationships with the Japan Ministry of Defense (JMOD), Self-Defense Forces, government entities, and defense primes 🤝
• Partner with solution architects and delivery leaders to design secure, compliant solutions (cloud, data platforms, AI/analytics, cyber) 🎯
• Ensure proposals and delivery plans meet customer mission needs, data sovereignty requirements, and accreditation standards 📝
• Lead executive-level presentations and negotiations with the customer 🎤
• Forge strategic alliances with Japanese defense primes, system integrators, and technology partners 🤝
• Structure teaming and subcontracting approaches aligned with procurement and security constraints 🏗️
• Coordinate closely with legal, security, and compliance teams for bid decisions and contract terms 📑
• Influence cross-functional teams globally to prioritize Japanese defense requirements and timelines 🌐

Qualifications

• Over 10 years of progressive experience in defense, national security, government, or related industry roles, with significant Japan market exposure 🌟
• Proficiency in Japanese language 🗣️
• Deep understanding of Japan defense procurement processes, stakeholder landscape, and partner ecosystem 🏛️
• Executive presence with ability to engage C-level leaders, senior civil servants, and prime contractor leadership 🧑‍💼
• Proven success in leading teams and influencing matrixed organizations, with strong commercial and contractual acumen 💼

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in business, engineering, international relations, or a related field 🎓
• Experience with secure cloud, mission systems modernization, cyber, data/AI, or enterprise platforms in defense environments 🌐
• Existing network across JMOD/SDF, defense primes, and systems integrators 🔗

Salary Range & Benefits (US)
