We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Vietnamese Court Interpreter to provide essential language services in a dynamic court environment. This role offers flexible scheduling across various court locations and plays a vital role in ensuring clear communication for LEP (Limited English Proficiency) parties and court personnel.

Position Overview

The Intermittent Part-Time Court Interpreter (Vietnamese) works under the supervision of the Interpreter Services Manager to facilitate communication during court proceedings, assist LEP individuals, and support court operations. The position may be assigned to locations including Alameda, Berkeley, Fremont, Hayward, Oakland, Dublin, and San Leandro.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret from and into English and Vietnamese using simultaneous and consecutive modes during court proceedings and related activities.
• Translate sight documents such as court petitions, reports, waivers, felony dispositions, and other legal documents for the court’s benefit.
• Assist judges, attorneys, court staff, and other court-related departments through interpretation at their direction.
• Facilitate language interpretation between English and Vietnamese during court proceedings.
• Identify and communicate any issues that could impede interpretation accuracy or performance.
• Research and familiarize yourself with legal terminology and court functions relevant to your interpretation duties.
• Manage daily assignments received from the Trial Court Interpreter Coordinator or Supervisor, and accurately log activities and documentation.
• Perform other interpretation-related duties, such as providing general court information at info counters for non-English speakers.
