Salary & Compensation

For Court Interpreter 1:

  • Schedule A: $69,504.36 - $98,696.16
  • Schedule B: $69,504.36 - $93,761.36

For Court Interpreter 2:

  • Schedule A: $73,674.60 - $111,206.94
  • Schedule B: $73,674.60 - $105,646.59

New hires typically start at the minimum. Promotions or advancements include a 5% salary increase, not exceeding the salary range maximum. Note: Employees hired before June 3, 2014, are classified as Schedule A; those hired on or after are Schedule B.

Remote Work Flexibility

The Judiciary offers a hybrid work schedule, permitting up to 2 days of remote work outside Judiciary buildings. Candidates must have high-speed internet at home to qualify for this program.

Example of Duties

The Camden Vicinage seeks a detail-oriented professional for the role of Court Interpreter. Under supervision, you will interpret in various modes (sight, consecutive, and simultaneous) during court and virtual proceedings, quasi-judicial hearings, dispute resolution events, weddings, and other related functions.

Your responsibilities also include producing translation drafts or finalized documents such as official forms, notices, signs, posters, letters, and correspondence. Additional duties involve data entry, participating in training sessions, and developing interpreting and translating skills. This is an exciting opportunity for bilingual professionals committed to making a difference and working effectively with all judiciary staff.

Qualifications

Eligibility: Applicants must be approved by the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). Approved interpreters are those who:

  • Have passed the written and performance oral exams administered by the National Center for State Courts or an equivalent test from a member state of the Council of Language Access Coordinators
  • Possess Court Interpreter Certification from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts

Note: Incumbents must pass the AOC translation test before translating documents.

Supplemental Information

  • Driver's License: Valid NJ license required if operating a vehicle for work.
  • Work Authorization: US citizenship not required; candidates must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Background Checks: New hires must consent to fingerprinting and a background check.
  • Residency Law: All new hires within one year must live in New Jersey, unless an exemption is granted.
