Position Overview
Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week) / Exempt
Salary Range: $140,000 - $190,000
Role Description
The Senior Manager is responsible for preparing tax returns, tax provisions, transfer pricing, and delivering tax consultation services to clients. As a vital part of the engagement team, senior managers are often the primary contact for clients, leading internal and external training, and fostering the career growth of tax staff, seniors, and managers. This role involves managing small to mid-sized clients, supporting business development, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality tax services. 🌟
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Review & Compliance: Apply accounting training and tax law expertise to review complex tax returns (corporate, dual-status, expatriate individuals, partnerships).
- Client & Audit Interaction: Review correspondence prepared by staff and seniors, liaise directly with tax auditors on behalf of clients regarding complex issues.
- Research & Analysis: Interpret tax laws, respond to client transaction questions, and review research prepared by team members.
- Transfer Pricing & Tax Provisions: Review, analyze, and prepare transfer pricing studies and tax provisions for financial statements.
- Client Service & Relationship Management: Lead client meetings, provide timely responses, and offer comprehensive tax consultations to enhance client satisfaction.
- Communication & Business Development: Maintain professional communication, build business relationships, identify opportunities for additional services, and participate in marketing and proposals.
- Team Leadership & Development: Motivate, train, coach, and evaluate team members; ensure work is completed within deadlines and budgets.
- Cross-Department Collaboration & Engagement Management: Coordinate with other departments, manage engagement activities, and work closely with partners and principals.
- Firm Representation & Recruiting: Participate actively in recruiting efforts and firm branding initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related tax concentration from an accredited university.
- Licenses: CPA or EA license required.
- Experience: 10+ years in tax services within a public accounting firm; previous tax manager role preferred.
- Technical Skills: Experience preparing various tax returns (individual, business, real estate, exempt organizations), proficiency in tax software, Excel, and Word.
- Language Skills: Business proficiency in English and Japanese (dual proficiency required).
- Personal Attributes: Detail-oriented, adept at multitasking, excellent communication skills, and strong interpersonal abilities.
