The City of Racine is seeking a dedicated Student Intern – Community Engagement and Trainer (Bilingual) to help bridge the digital divide by providing computer literacy training to Spanish-speaking and limited-English populations, fostering community growth and technological preparedness. 🚀

🔹 Job Requirements

Introduction

The City of Racine aims to reduce the digital divide by empowering residents with essential digital skills. This internship focuses on training individuals who have little to no experience with computers, teaching them how to use the internet safely and securely. The goal is to enable community members to perform tasks such as homework, research, job applications, online forms, and telehealth activities. 💻🌐

This role involves outreach, collaboration with non-profit organizations, and delivering training in Spanish or to those with limited English skills, ultimately impacting the city's development through technological inclusion.

Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the Chief Information Officer, you will help teach basic computer skills to Spanish speakers and individuals with limited English proficiency. Additionally, you'll assist in planning, implementing, and sustaining programs that promote digital literacy within the City of Racine, contributing to increased community computer use through in-person training sessions.

Essential Duties

  • Learn to teach computer skills compassionately and effectively, focusing on Spanish-speaking and underserved populations.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings and training events.
  • Schedule, plan, and lead training sessions.
  • Document training activities and progress.
  • Assist in developing strategies to engage community members and supporters.
  • Build collaborations with individuals and organizations to meet shared objectives.
  • Research unfamiliar topics and seek guidance as needed.
  • Contribute to Spanish language community engagement efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Physical Demands: Sitting, typing at a computer, viewing screens, and attending events.

Work Environment: Office settings, remote work, community events, and on-site locations, including outdoor events under tents.

Equipment Used: Telephones, computers, peripherals, and software applications.

Work Schedule: To be determined; generally Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with evening and off-site activities as needed. Preference for candidates interested in multiple semesters and able to work 15-20 hours weekly.
