Position Summary

Chaplains serve as the frontline staff, fulfilling the mission and Christian ministry of MCHAP by utilizing their gifts and talents to serve company employees and their immediate families.

Type: Part-time

Locations: Athens / Bethlehem

Specialization: Bilingual Haitian/Creole

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Faith and Mission: Acts as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
  • Community Engagement: Interacts with companies, employees, and communities demonstrating character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
  • Ministry Visits: Conducts regular visits to worksites (usually weekly) to build relationships of trust and friendship motivated by Christian faith.
  • Employee and Family Care: Visits employees or immediate family members at hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, residences, or other sites to offer support.
  • Pastoral Support: Provides confidential pastoral discussions on personal issues such as family matters, serious illnesses, grief, parenting, financial stress, and other life challenges.
  • Referral and Coordination: Refers employees to specialized assistance and coordinates support services.
  • Funeral and Grief Support: Assists in planning, conducting, and following up on funerals or memorial services, offering grief support to families.
  • Hospital and Jail Visits: Visits employees and their families in hospitals, nursing homes, or jails as needed.
  • Notification Support: Works with companies to notify families of death or serious injuries, providing comfort and support.
  • Post-termination Care: Supports laid-off or terminated employees to facilitate smooth transitions.
  • Spiritual Activities: Facilitates spiritual enrichment activities, often employee-led, fostering growth and community.
  • Resource Provision: Shares literature and resources to assist employees with life challenges.
  • Representation: Represents companies in ministry services during serious events or crises.
  • Employee Orientation: Participates in new employee orientation to explain Employee Care services and the Chaplain team's role.
  • Additional Duties: With approval, responds to other duties requested by executive leadership within scope.

Requirements

  • Interfaith Collaboration: Able to work effectively within diverse religious and cultural settings, respecting different lifestyles and beliefs.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills, especially under stressful circumstances.
  • Spiritual Maturity: Demonstrated Christian lifestyle, with a thorough understanding of the Bible and active participation in a biblically-based church.
  • Professional Demeanor: Ability to interact diplomatically and courteously, maintaining confidentiality and effective relationships.
  • Communication Proficiency: Strong oral and written communication skills for engaging with leadership, colleagues, employees, and families.
  • Analytical Skills: Capable of analyzing information, defining problems, and following through with solutions and policy interpretation.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with Google Suites, Microsoft Office, internet, email, and adaptable to new technology.
  • Driver's License: Must hold an active state driver's license and minimum auto insurance as required by the state(s).

Conditions of Employment

Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.

Work Environment

This is a remote field position; work environments vary based on client worksites, including manufacturing facilities, hospitals, offices, and funeral homes, with differing temperature, noise, and lighting conditions.
