About the Role

An Over-the-Phone (OPI) Interpreter at Homeland Language Services facilitates clear communication between non-English and English speakers during calls. Our interpreters specialize in various fields, ensuring accuracy, tolerance, and confidentiality throughout the conversation.

As a linguistic expert, you will be recognized for your speed, precision, and professionalism, contributing to meaningful interactions across communities.

Your Responsibilities

• Answer calls professionally, adhering to the Interpreter's code of conduct.
• Take notes during calls to ensure accuracy.
• Familiarize yourself with industry-specific vocabulary, especially in healthcare and medical fields.
• Participate in internal professional training programs.
• Pursue new professional certifications and skills.
• Communicate effectively and report to your team leader.

Ideal Candidate Background & Experience

• Proficiency, bilingual, or native-level fluency in English and Cantonese.
• At least 1+ years of interpreting experience.
• Good knowledge of medical terminology.
• Legal terminology knowledge is a plus.
• International certifications in healthcare (e.g., PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA) are advantageous.
• High school diploma in your native language.
• Strong emotional intelligence and cultural tolerance.
• Excellent communication, listening, note-taking, and memory skills.

Technical Requirements

This role is fully remote, so you must meet the following technical specifications to ensure optimal performance:

• A Mac with macOS 10.13+ or a Windows PC with Windows 10 or newer, equipped with either a Pentium or I3 processor.
• Minimum 4 GB RAM, preferably 8 GB.
• Stable ethernet internet connection (Wi-Fi not accepted) with at least 4 Mbps download/upload speed.
• Noise-canceling wired USB headset.
