🔍 Position Summary
33 USA Inc. is seeking a results-oriented Business Development Manager to lead our agency's expansion across North America. Sitting at the intersection of Business Development and Client Services, you will craft sales strategies to attract new clients and act as a strategic partner to key existing accounts, maximizing their lifetime value.
In this role, you will oversee the sales pipeline, mentor junior BD Leads, and work collaboratively with leadership to connect Japanese content with global audiences.
📋 Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Strategic Business Development (Sales Strategy & Acquisition)
- Own the annual revenue goals for North America and develop comprehensive strategies to reach high-growth targets.
- Manage the entire sales cycle—from prospecting to closing—focusing on high-value contracts with entertainment studios, publishers, and streaming platforms.
- Identify and negotiate complex partnership deals, including licensing, AOR agreements, and joint ventures.
- Represent the company at key industry events like Anime Expo, Comic-Con, CES, SXSW, and Licensing Expo to expand your network of clients and partners.
- Account Management & Client Success
- Serve as the senior point of contact for key clients, providing strategic marketing consultancy and brand advice beyond transactional needs.
- Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling services (PR, social media, event marketing, digital campaigns, creative production, etc.) within existing accounts.
- Monitor client satisfaction through Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), demonstrating ROI and securing contract renewals.
- Manage account profitability, forecast accurately, and oversee billing and contract negotiations to safeguard agency margins.
- Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Business Development Leads and Associates, setting KPIs and providing coaching to enhance their skills.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Creative, and Project Management teams to ensure feasible promises and excellent delivery.
- Act as a liaison between the US office and Japan Headquarters, ensuring strategies are effectively localized for North America.
🎯 Qualifications (Skills & Experience)
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in Business Development, Account Management, or Sales within marketing, advertising, or entertainment sectors
- Native-level proficiency in English and Japanese
- Proven track record of managing or exceeding $1M+ annual portfolios
- Deep industry knowledge of the US and Japanese entertainment markets (Anime, Manga, Gaming) and agency business models
- At least 2 years of experience managing or mentoring junior team members
Preferred:
- Expertise in digital marketing, media planning, and creative workflows for effective client consultation
- Existing relationships within the US entertainment and licensing sectors
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; MBA a plus
