🔍 Position Summary
The Mental Health Therapist operates within Mary’s Center’s outpatient behavioral health clinic. Responsibilities include conducting mental health assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing individual and family psychotherapy to clients in need.
📋 Reportability
This role reports directly to the Senior Clinical Manager.
🛠️ Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Explain therapist’s role, client rights, confidentiality, and mandated reporting obligations.
- Complete diagnostic assessments, gathering information from referral sources, client charts, family members, and previous providers.
- Determine DSM-5 diagnoses.
- Develop treatment plans and obtain necessary authorizations in accordance with insurance policies.
- Provide individual and family therapy to foster insight and achieve personal goals.
- Document all contacts, referrals, and relevant information accurately and timely.
- Maintain comprehensive client records adhering to documentation and billing policies.
- Meet weekly productivity standards set by the Director.
- Engage families and significant others to support treatment objectives.
- Apply crisis management techniques when necessary to stabilize clients.
- Maintain monthly statistics and submit reports as required.
- Participate in weekly case reviews and peer supervision sessions.
- Respect cultural values and integrate family backgrounds into services.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support to clients, rotating with other therapists (1-2 weeks per year or more).
- Identify opportunities for professional growth through training and committee involvement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Work Schedule: 2-3 days in office as needed, with 4-6 non-business appointment slots.
🎓 Qualifications

🧠 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
- Entry-level license (LMSW or LGPC) to practice psychotherapy in DC or Maryland, depending on the site
🗣️ Language Requirement
Effective communication in English is mandatory. Fluency in Spanish is also required.
💪 Physical Demands
- Regular sitting; frequent reaching, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and hearing
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds
🏢 Work Environment
Primarily office or home settings with moderate noise levels. May be exposed to varying weather conditions when outside. Hybrid work options available—remote and onsite as needed.
