About the Role
Amazon’s Customer Engagement Technologies (CET) organization develops sophisticated products that power Customer Service (CS) worldwide. These products enable effortless self-service and automated solutions, while also supporting Customer Service Associates (CSAs) in resolving issues effectively through human-centered design. A key innovation is a real-time neural machine translation system supporting up to 39 languages. This system aims to eliminate language barriers across customer interactions via email, chat, Message Us, and CS Chatbot channels, enabling Amazon to support customers globally, regardless of language.
Your Impact
As a Machine Learning Data Associate (MLDA) – Specialist Portuguese, you will:
- Audit and improve Portuguese-to-English and English-to-Portuguese machine translations.
- Review interactions on text-based channels to assess translation quality.
- Identify key opportunities for translation enhancements to elevate customer experience.
- Collaborate with Program and Product Managers to optimize translation processes and testing.
- Contribute to a global team influencing product strategies and customer solutions worldwide.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a native Portuguese speaker fluent in English, detail-oriented, and an effective communicator. You are data-driven, eager to learn from interactions, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Your work will directly influence front-line operations and improve customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing native-level translation and localization in Portuguese.
- Testing and reading content in Portuguese, then documenting outcomes in English for stakeholders.
- Supporting internal and external customers through your Portuguese skills.
- Navigating internal tools to understand and improve the customer journey.
- Maintaining a strong attention to detail and quality.
- Adapting quickly to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
A Typical Day
Your daily activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Localization and translation tasks.
- Testing various workstreams to ensure quality.
- Reading customer interactions in Portuguese and documenting findings in English.
- Managing relationships with stakeholders.

- Automate customer service processes
- Enhance the end-to-end customer experience
Basic Qualifications
- Fluent in Portuguese and English (verbal and written)
- At least 1 year of experience in localization and translation
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Customer service experience
- Ability to handle complex, evolving environments
- Capability to interpret customer needs into clear requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with project planning—scoping, deadlines, backlog management, reporting
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of data processing and trade-offs
- Experience with machine learning, AI, and natural language understanding data

Compensation & Application
The annual base pay ranges from $32,700 to $70,000, based on geographic location and experience. Additional compensation may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and other benefits. Learn more at Amazon Employee Benefits.
