About Us 🏢
All Seniors Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults across Los Angeles County. We offer over 200 free services—including medical care, in-home support, hospice and palliative services, and cancer navigation—to qualifying seniors. All services are provided at no cost, regardless of insurance status.
Role Overview 🎯
As a Bilingual Japanese Patient Advocate, you will serve as a trusted contact for Japanese-speaking seniors, including the Nisei and Issei elders, within Little Tokyo, Gardena, Torrance, and broader Japanese-American communities in Los Angeles.
Key Responsibilities 📝
- Conduct initial assessments with Japanese-speaking seniors and their families
- Translate during medical and benefits-related conversations between staff and clients
- Assist clients in enrolling in Medi-Cal, IHSS, hospice, Medicare Savings Programs, and other benefits
- accompany clients to medical appointments and benefits offices as an interpreter and advocate
- Document interactions in our case-management system and follow up on open issues
- Build trust within Japanese-American communities through partnerships with JANM, Keiro, churches, and senior housing providers
Qualifications ✅
- Native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English
- Experience working with elderly populations, healthcare systems, or social services
- Cultural competency with Japanese and Japanese-American senior communities, including knowledge of Nisei/Issei history and generational dynamics
- Strong empathy, patience, and the ability to explain complex topics in plain language
- High school diploma (bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or related field preferred)

What to Expect on the Job 🚶♂️🚶♀️
Your workday will involve in-person home visits in Little Tokyo, Gardena, Torrance, and nearby areas, along with phone outreach and benefits office accompaniment. Your efforts will help obaachan/ojiichan (grandmother/grandfather) access free care they may not have known was available.
