About the Role

TransPerfect Connect (TPC) is seeking highly fluent, professional bilingual interpreters (English & Cantonese/Mandarin/Vietnamese/Korean/French/Haitian Creole). If you have experience in a professional call center environment and want to launch your interpreting career, this opportunity offers comprehensive, paid training to become an Over-the-Phone (OPI) and Video Remote Interpreter (VRI).

Support clients in healthcare, legal, financial, and other sectors while making a real-world impact through your language skills.

Interpreters at TPC facilitate accurate, culturally appropriate communication for limited-English speakers, whether assisting a medical patient or enabling access to vital services. Your bilingualism will directly improve lives by bridging communication gaps with professionalism and sensitivity.

What You Will Do

  • Provide interpretation services between English and Cantonese/Mandarin/Vietnamese/Korean/French/Haitian Creole across various industries (medical, legal, customer service, etc.)
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and neutrality while preserving tone, intent, and emotion
  • Maintain confidentiality and impartiality at all times
  • Manage call flow professionally, intervening respectfully for clarification when needed
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence during high-pressure or emotionally charged situations
  • Utilize active listening, note-taking, and memory retention techniques for longer exchanges
  • Adhere strictly to interpretation protocols, avoiding personal opinions or advice
  • Participate in ongoing training to continually improve your skills
  • Use basic computer tools (MS Office, internal platforms) effectively to manage calls and logs

Required Qualifications ✅

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college education preferred
  • Fluency in English and Cantonese/Mandarin/Vietnamese/Korean/French/Haitian Creole with B2+ proficiency or higher
  • Ability to pass language and interpreting skills assessments
  • At least 6 months of call center, customer service, or interpreting experience
  • Strong verbal communication, bilingual accuracy, and ethical decision-making skills
  • Professionalism to handle fast-paced, emotionally complex situations
  • Responsible, with excellent time management and integrity
  • Comfortable assertive communication and session control
  • Basic computer skills, including typing and MS Office
  • Quiet, distraction-free work environment conducive to active listening
  • Stable home internet connection (cable, DSL, or fiber; cellular hotspots not permitted)
  • Identity Verification: Must provide valid, government-issued photo ID during recruiting and training. Failure to do so results in disqualification.

Preferred Qualifications 🌟

  • Certification in medical, legal, or community interpreting (a strong plus)
  • Experience with remote work tools and communication platforms

Remote Work Requirements 💻

  • Quiet, comfortable work environment free from distractions
  • Desktop or laptop computer (Windows or Mac) with at least 16GB RAM
  • Reliable broadband internet (minimum 30 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload)
  • Computer no older than 5 years in functioning condition
  • No cellular data or hotspots allowed for connectivity
