Position Summary

This role involves assisting teachers, students, and parents through interpreting and translating between Vietnamese and English. The aide serves as a vital liaison to bridge cultural and language gaps, facilitating understanding of student needs, school services, and community resources. Tasks include supporting EL teacher activities as assigned and approved by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work with diverse students linguistically and culturally
  • Fluency in Vietnamese and English (oral and written), demonstrating proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Detail-oriented, diligent, and knowledgeable of school procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, parents, and community members
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interpret verbal communication and translate written documents to facilitate effective communication
  • Assist in organizing and implementing instructional activities to enhance student success
  • Administer tests and assist with instructional materials based on individual student needs
  • Instruct students individually or in groups, supporting learning activities and modifications
  • Maintain accurate records (e.g., attendance, student profiles) in compliance with program requirements
  • Monitor students to ensure a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment
  • Encourage positive behaviors and study habits for academic achievement
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, nurses, and administrators regarding student progress and needs
  • Serve as a cultural liaison, explaining school policies, programs, and community resources
  • Model professional behavior, demonstrating a positive attitude and ethical work ethic
  • Participate in meetings, training, and school events as needed
  • Support enforcement of school rules and policies
  • Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of employment

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency in English and Vietnamese, including reading, writing, interpreting, and translating
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with staff and community members
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires regularly sitting, talking, hearing, and standing. The employee may need to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally. The work environment typically presents moderate noise levels and a fast-paced workflow. Occasional travel to other sites for meetings or events may be required.
