Job Announcement: Bilingual Instructional Assistant
Role Overview
Under teacher supervision, the Bilingual/ESL Instructional Assistant provides support to educators in addressing the educational and personal needs of bilingual students. This includes assisting in teaching English as a second language (ESL) to individual or groups of students and supporting students with other academic subjects as needed.
Distinguishing Characteristics
- Typically short-term positions
- Hourly schedules during school days only
- Funding may vary based on Federal or State sources
- Requires bilingual fluency and experience in ESL techniques
- Effective teamwork with limited English proficient students
Minimum Qualifications 📝
- Knowledge of:
- Combination of skills, experience, and education demonstrating capability for duties
- Successful completion of District Instructional Assistant Proficiency Test
- Basic English language and academic skills (reading, math, spelling)
- Activities suitable for children (games, arts, crafts)
- Experience: Leadership in children's activities or school experience preferred but not required
- Education: Completion of high school or equivalent; additional training in ESL or related backgrounds is desirable
Conditions of Employment 🔍
- DOJ and FBI criminal background checks
- TB test within the last 60 days
- Complete district-mandated training (Mandated Reporter, Sexual Harassment, etc.)
- Education and/or proficiency testing (A.A. degree, 48 college units, or district proficiency test)
