Teacher Role and Responsibilities in a Dual Language Program 🌍

This comprehensive role involves fostering student growth, implementing effective instructional strategies, and maintaining a safe and engaging classroom environment.

Role and Purpose

  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in core academic subjects to help them reach their full potential—intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially.
  • Support student development of competencies and skills necessary to succeed in a global society.

Qualifications

Education & Certification 🎓

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for the subject/level assigned

Special Knowledge & Skills 🌟

  • Knowledge of assigned subjects and languages
  • General understanding of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage classroom behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in French (preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies ✏️

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with district curriculum, campus instructional framework, and dual language program model, with documented evidence of preparation.
  • Collaborate with co-teachers to plan activities meeting instructional standards and dual language program goals.
  • Prepare lessons accommodating varied student learning styles.
  • Deliver subject matter adhering to guidelines from the Texas Education Agency, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Use appropriate strategies, activities, materials, and equipment tailored to student needs, including gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504 plans, etc.
  • Assess student learning styles and leverage data to inform instruction.
  • Coordinate with special education staff to adapt curricula based on IEPs.
  • Define instructional goals collaboratively with staff, aligning with district standards.
  • Implement district-approved instructional framework and dual language program model.
  • Maintain records on language acquisition and accommodations.
  • Participate in extended day/year activities as assigned.
  • Supervise teacher aides and volunteers effectively.
  • Integrate technology to enhance teaching and learning experiences.

Student Growth & Development 📈

  • Assist students in analyzing and improving study habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments using various methods to evaluate achievement.
  • Oversee extracurricular activities and promote student engagement.
  • Serve as a positive role model and support school district missions.

Classroom Management & Organization 🏫

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, considering students’ physical, social, and emotional needs.
  • Manage student behavior in line with policies and student IEPs.
  • Ensure safety precautions are followed to protect students and resources.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials such as books and equipment.

Communication 📢

  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, staff, and community members through conferences and digital media.
  • Establish and uphold professional relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Communicate information clearly and accurately.

Professional Growth & Development 📚

  • Maintain current knowledge of subject content, instructional strategies, and language acquisition.
  • Participate in staff development activities to refine skills.
  • Attend at least 3 additional professional development days geared toward dual language education, culture, or campus initiatives.
  • Complete Reading Academy requirements for K-3 teachers, as mandated by TEA.

Miscellaneous 🗂️

  • Stay informed about and comply with all relevant regulations and policies.
  • Maintain required reports and documentation accurately.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as needed.
  • Engage in school activities that showcase student success.
  • Display professional, responsible behavior in line with the Professional Code of Ethics.

Physical & Environmental Demands 🚶‍♂️💻

  • Maintain emotional resilience under stress.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making.
  • Perform frequent physical activities such as standing, stooping, bending, and moving classroom materials.
  • Travel periodically within district or nationally, as required.
  • Perform all duties safely, observing safety precautions diligently.

Note: To avoid disrupting current campus operations, current teachers and assistants may only apply if the position represents a promotion, defined as an increase in salary grade or stipend. Transfers during open windows do not qualify.
