Position Title: Bilingual Employment Specialist
Department: Vocational Services
Reports to: Director of Vocational Services
Employment Status: Full Time
FSLA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $52,000 - $62,500
Position Summary
The Vocational Services Program at Interfaith Works empowers people transitioning out of homelessness and low-income residents of Montgomery County to attain economic independence through meaningful employment. Our focus is on delivering qualified, dependable employees eager to build long-term careers, all while supporting local employers. We are seeking a dedicated bilingual (Spanish/English) Vocational Counselor to join our passionate team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Guide clients through a structured, targeted job search process with personalized counseling, coaching, and skill development.
- Conduct vocational and skills assessments for program participants.
- Deliver job-readiness training, including resume writing, interview practice, and application support.
- Provide ongoing encouragement to foster accountability and confidence during the job search journey.
- Build and nurture relationships with local employers to identify job opportunities.
- Identify accessible training and educational programs to support clients’ career ambitions.
- Assist clients with employment retention strategies post-job placement.
- Collaborate with case managers, therapists, and other service providers to ensure coordinated support for clients.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred: At least one year of experience working with low-income populations or individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Office365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), and familiarity with virtual meeting tools like Zoom or Teams.
- Excellent organizational skills for documentation, service planning, and follow-up.
- Experience using Dynamics 365 to record client progress is a plus.
- Experience in creating effective resumes and cover letters preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a high-performing team.
- Creative problem-solving skills, with the capacity to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of supported employment programs for clients with co-occurring disorders or lifelong disabilities is a plus.
- Familiarity with the DC Metropolitan Area labor market and local industry sectors is advantageous.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
The physical requirements for this role include:
- Regular speaking and listening.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle objects and controls.
- Occasional standing, walking, sitting, and reaching.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Visual abilities including close vision, distance vision, and focus adjustment.
The work environment is typically low to moderate noise levels, with accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
