We're seeking passionate bilingual (English/Spanish) educators to support community nutrition initiatives at NYC farmers markets, helping promote healthy eating and food security in underserved neighborhoods.

  • Work Environment: On-site at NYC farmers’ markets, farmstands, and Health Centers with monthly in-office meetings
  • Salary: $24/hour
  • Grant End Date: June 30, 2027

About the Role

As a Bilingual Educator, you'll join a dedicated team facilitating interactive nutrition and cooking workshops at farmers markets, farmstands, and Health Centers from August to November 2026. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop your community engagement, interpretation, and public health skills while contributing to health equity efforts.

The Program: Stellar Farmers Markets (SFM)

SFM engages New Yorkers in nutrition education in underserved neighborhoods, aiming to increase fruit and vegetable consumption. Educators will undergo comprehensive training in public speaking, culinary skills, nutritional knowledge, and bilingual interpretation, all with a trauma-informed approach fostering community connection and joy in food.

Upon successful completion, educators will earn a Community Nutrition and Food Education Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a paid, 5-day training session in July 2026 (7/21, 7/22, 7/24, 7/27, 7/28)
  • Attend monthly Monday afternoon meetings at the NYC Health Department office in LIC for updates, collaboration, and training
  • Work collaboratively with teams at each site, including a Nutrition and a Culinary Educator
  • Interpret nutrition and cooking workshops from English to Spanish, including verbal interpretation and translated signage when possible
  • Assist with workshop preparation, delivery, surveys, and data collection
  • Support food prep and demonstration activities
  • Set up and break down workshop tents, equipment, and educational materials
  • Adhere to curriculum fidelity and programming standards
  • Promote programming and drive engagement at various sites
  • Maintain safety protocols and environmentally sustainable practices

Qualifications

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish (oral communication)
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural settings
  • Comfortable standing for long periods and working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Writing and translating in Spanish
  • Oral interpretation experience in English and Spanish
  • Teamwork and collaboration experience
  • Knowledge of regional food systems, food security, and NYC community health issues

Physical & Additional Requirements

  • Stand and work outside for extended periods
  • Lift items up to 25 pounds regularly
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • This role is contingent upon final funding approval (anticipated by June 30)
  • Most responsibilities are on-site; remote work is not available
