🎯 Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED; college courses in accounting, business, or related fields are preferred.
  • Experience: At least one year of customer service experience in a call center environment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Language Fluency: Fluent in both English and Spanish (write, read, and speak) is required.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively under stressful conditions.
    • Excellent bilingual communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Strong typing skills with speed and accuracy.
    • Effective problem-solving and resolution skills with the public.
    • Proficiency in PC applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Testing & Background Checks: Must pass an independent, third-party skills test in English and Spanish (paid for by the county), along with pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification.
  • Additional Compensation: Successful candidates will receive a 5% salary increase over the advertised starting salary for bilingual proficiency.

📝 Job Duties

The successful candidate will serve as the first point of contact at the Utilities Department, providing assistance in both English and Spanish to a diverse customer base. Responsibilities include:

  • Offering information, researching basic issues, and performing routine account collections or arrangements.
  • Responding to inquiries, resolving complaints, and processing payments.
  • Explaining policies and procedures to customers in both languages.
  • Using bilingual skills extensively to assist Spanish-fluent customers in accessing services and translating information.
  • Interpreting information in person, over the phone, and via written communication such as emails.
  • Translating documents, correspondence, and customer information for staff.
  • Contacting Spanish-fluent customers per request from non-Spanish-speaking staff.

Additional functions include supporting online and IVR payments, investigating accounts, and responding to billing or account inquiries. This position offers opportunities for career growth and salary incentives, contingent on performance and funding.

🕒 Work Schedule & Location

  • Shift: Monday - Friday; 8 hours on Monday; 5 hours Tuesday through Friday.
