Chesterfield County Is Hiring A Bilingual Customer Service Representative

This position is ideal for bilingual professionals proficient in both English and Spanish, with opportunities for career growth and development within the Utilities Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; college courses in accounting, business, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience: At least one year of customer service experience in a call center environment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory.
  • Skills: Ability to multitask, work under stressful conditions, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in a bilingual setting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in PC applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Assessment: Must pass an independent, third-party test evaluating speaking, writing, and reading skills in both English and Spanish (paid for by the county).
  • Additional Requirements: Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and verification of education/degree.

Note: The successful candidate’s compensation will include a 5% increase over the advertised starting salary due to bilingual proficiency. 🚀

Primary Duties

As the first point of contact at the Utilities Department, your responsibilities will include:

  • Customer Assistance: Serving a diverse population by providing information, resolving inquiries, and addressing complaints in both English and Spanish.
  • Account Management: Performing routine collections, making payment arrangements, investigating accounts, and explaining policies and procedures.
  • Language Support: Using bilingual skills to assist Spanish-fluent customers through in-person translation, phone interpretation, and written correspondence.
  • Documentation & Communication: Translating written documents and correspondence, and translating customer information for staff as needed.
  • Customer Interaction: Supporting new connections, disconnections, billing questions, and online/IVR payment processes.
  • Account Investigation: Reviewing consumption histories and responding to inquiries related to charges and credit histories.
  • Additional Tasks: Performing other duties as required to support the department’s operations.

Work Schedule & Location

  • Shift: Monday - Friday; Monday (8-hour shift); Tuesday - Friday (5-hour shifts)
  • Work Location: Utilities Department
