About the Role
As a Bilingual Communications Specialist, you will deliver strategic and tactical communication support to ALPA, its International Committees, and Master Executive Councils (MECs). Your expertise will help develop effective pilot communication plans, execute campaigns supporting collective bargaining and advocacy priorities, and manage diverse outreach initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and strategic counsel to pilot groups, guiding communication development, packaging, placement, and timing to meet MEC goals π―
- Design and execute programs supporting collective bargaining, advocacy, media relations, social media, paid digital media, community/stakeholder relations, and outreach efforts π’π»
- Transform complex aviation safety, legal, and economic data into clear visual narratives for videos and graphics π₯πΌοΈ
- Identify innovative messaging methods for diverse audiences, selecting optimal media channels for maximum impact π
- Balance multiple media projects, editing copy for email, social media, and video content, while anticipating new visual messaging needs π¬π
- Collaborate with ALPA staff to develop multimedia content supporting pilot initiatives and campaigns π§βπ»π€
- Travel locally, nationally, and internationally (20-25%) as needed βοΈ
What Weβre Looking For
- Educational Background: Bachelorβs degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field; masterβs or postgraduate coursework preferred π
- Experience: 3+ years in communications roles; 5+ years preferred, especially within aviation, labor unions, or advocacy πβοΈ
- Bilingual Fluency: Professional proficiency in English and French (oral and written), including translation skills π«π·πΊπΈ
- Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, communication, time management, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and handle complex information effectively π£οΈπ
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS Office, basic videography and editing, Adobe Creative Suite, Vyond (desirable), HTML (plus), and web content management tools π₯οΈπ¬
- Additional Qualities: Strong judgment, professionalism, adaptability, and a proactive approach to developing communication strategies π‘
Physical Demands
This role involves daily computer and device use, local travel, and occasional lifting of items up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations are available to support physical activities necessary for success in this position.
