Position Opportunity: Bilingual Case Manager at Midtown Community Justice Center 🎯
Established in 1993, the Midtown Community Justice Center was among the nation’s first problem-solving courts, offering alternatives to fines and jail for low-level offenses. Committed to reducing crime and incarceration while increasing community trust, we work closely with neighborhood stakeholders in Midtown Manhattan to connect individuals to vital services and promote community wellness.
Role Overview 💼
The Bilingual Case Manager will be part of the Intake team, reporting to the Coordinator of Court Operations. This role involves managing new referrals, conducting intakes and screenings, re-engaging past participants, providing direct case management, and maintaining court relationships—ultimately supporting the rehabilitation and community reintegration of participants.
Key Responsibilities 🔑
- Conduct comprehensive needs assessments for referred clients.
- Schedule and facilitate access to mandated social services and community engagement activities.
- Manage a caseload of participants, supporting their completion of court mandates and coordinating care with external providers.
- Make referrals to services such as mental health, substance use treatment, housing, employment, and benefits.
- Maintain and update referral resources and client data in our electronic case management system.
- Send written updates on participants’ progress to court stakeholders, including judges and attorneys.
- Engage in crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
- Greet guests, handle administrative duties, and support court operations.
- Build strong relationships with prosecutors, defense attorneys, and program staff.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and community events, including occasional evening and weekend commitments.
Qualifications & Skills 🎓
- Bachelor’s degree or 3-4 years of social service experience.
- Fluency in English and Spanish—both written and verbal—is required.
- Experience in criminal justice settings preferred.
- Knowledge of harm reduction, mental health, trauma-informed practices, and co-occurring disorders.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with diverse populations and in culturally responsive ways.
- Familiarity with community resources across New York City.
Position Details 🕒
- Type: Full-time (Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm)
- Location: Midtown Manhattan
- Salary: $52,000 - $65,400, based on experience
