Ounce of Care Is Hiring A Bilingual Cantonese/Mandarin Part-Time Community Navigator

Join Our Mission to Empower Communities 🌟

At Ounce, we believe that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Our mission is to foster healthy, thriving communities through innovative, community-based services enabled by technology—delivering impactful support to residents of affordable housing at scale.

We are seeking creative, compassionate teammates to join us on this meaningful journey. 😊

About the Role

As an Ounce Community Navigator, you will serve as the welcoming face of Ounce within the community, working directly with residents, housing & community partners, and our broader team to enhance care and services within affordable housing settings. This is a part-time, community-focused, resident-facing position that requires consistency, follow-through, and reliability.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Outreach & Engagement 🎯
Proactively connect with residents through door-to-door flyering, community events, tabling, and phone outreach. The role involves being physically present on-site during scheduled hours and engaging residents with creativity and compassion.
  • Benefits & Service Coordination 🩺
Assist residents in scheduling doctor’s appointments, applying for benefits (such as SNAP, TANF, LIHEAP), and advocating for their health & wellness. Track referrals and follow up promptly within our technology platform.
  • Relationship Building 🤝
Establish trust and rapport with residents, listen to their needs, and work closely with community partners to strengthen community ties. Consistent on-site presence and dependability are essential.

Who We’re Looking For

  • You have experience navigating government benefits like SNAP, TANF, LIHEAP, or Medicaid, and coordinating care with local organizations.
  • You thrive in “boots on the ground” environments, enjoy community organizing, and excel in customer service roles within affordable housing communities—embodying a residents come first mentality.
  • You understand the unique opportunities and challenges faced by affordable housing residents; experience living or working in the Sacramento area is a plus.
  • You are dependable, organized, and committed to a set schedule, knowing that your presence builds trust and stability in the community.

Additional Details

  • Schedule: 16 hours per week (Monday–Friday). Commitment to a consistent schedule is crucial.
  • Location: Within Sacramento, CA.
  • Hourly Rate: $24–$28 per hour.

Our Expectations at Ounce

At Ounce, we deeply value our community—residents and team members alike. We strive to support you in integrating this role sustainably into your life, emphasizing open communication and reliability. Our residents and partners trust us to show up when promised, so dependable, proactive communication is key. This role suits someone who can commit to a schedule, communicate honestly early on, and take ownership of their responsibilities.

Role Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Fluent in Cantonese/Mandarin and English.
  • Provide ongoing services related to health, benefits, and financial needs, including follow-up support.
  • Accurately document all outreach, services, referrals, and interactions on the Ounce platform in a timely manner.
  • Build and nurture local partnerships aligned with resident needs and community programming.
  • Plan, coordinate, and host regular on-site engagement activities and events.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and check-ins, actively contributing to the Ounce community.
