This unique program interweaves rigorous daily classroom instruction with immersive cultural experiences designed to enhance language proficiency and cultural understanding.

Position Overview

The Bilingual Summer Staff member plays a vital role in supporting both academic and non-academic operations of the School. Responsibilities include tutoring, student support, organizing activities, and assisting faculty — all under supervision of the School's leadership. Compensation includes hourly wages, plus lodging and meals.

Key Responsibilities

*Program Ambassador 🗣️

  • Serve as primary in-language contact for students and faculty, knowledgeable about the program, campus resources, and policies.
  • Engage actively with students: tutoring, encouragement, and support during meals, activities, and in social spaces.
  • Promote commitment to the Language Pledge and a rigorous learning environment.
  • Represent the School and the Middlebury community as an official ambassador.

*Student Life 🤝

  • Act as a School representative in dorms and social spaces, especially evenings and weekends.
  • Reside in dorms, providing guidance, non-academic support, and monitoring Language Pledge adherence.
  • Organize social events within the dorms.
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies, directing students to appropriate resources.

*Co-curricular Activities & Events 🎉

  • Coordinate and facilitate the School's cultural programs, liaising with campus offices.
  • Design and implement cultural events; assist with regular activities, including transportation as needed.
  • Represent the school during events as a host for guests such as lecturers and performers.
  • Support faculty, guests, and Director during lectures, performances, and activities.
  • Participate in inter-school activities and attend program events as a crowd manager or "animator."

*Tutoring & Pedagogical Support 📝

  • Provide tutoring to assist with homework, grammar, pronunciation, etc.
  • Engage students in conversation practice outside of classroom hours.

*Technology Support 💻

  • Offer general IT support for faculty, students, and guests.
  • Train faculty on curricular technology tools.
  • Manage school technology and media archives.
  • Provide technical support during events, including audio-visual setup.
  • Assist with classroom tech as needed.

*Communication & Media 📢

  • Engage with students and faculty via email, social media, website, and print media.
  • Edit and create web content, media publications, and event materials.
  • Manage photography and videography, including editing and slideshows.
  • Translate official Middlebury documents when needed.

*School Office Administration 🏢

  • Operate the School office, providing in-language assistance to visitors.
  • Coordinate scheduling of events and activities.

Qualifications & Requirements ✅

  • Bachelor's degree: strongly preferred; advanced degrees a plus.
  • Language proficiency: Native or near-native in Hebrew and English (oral and written).
  • Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
  • Experience: Comfortable working with diverse age groups and backgrounds.
  • Initiative and teamwork: Able to take responsibility and collaborate effectively.
  • Driver's license: current and valid.
