Position Details

  • Type: Full Time / Non-Exempt (36 hours/week)
  • Schedule: Flexible hours, adjusted as needed to meet program requirements
  • Annual Salary: $40,000

Job Description

The Advocate will deliver mobile support and advocacy for survivors, connecting them with essential community resources to foster safety and independence. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting intake assessments, safety planning, and case management meetings to develop and update survivor goals
  • Providing crisis intervention, resource referrals, and emotional support for shelter, housing, legal services, counseling, and more
  • Accompanying clients to appointments and legal proceedings such as court appearances
  • Providing legal referrals and education about the legal system, including documentation for social service agencies
  • Collaborating with community organizations to enhance capacity-building efforts
  • Maintaining an up-to-date database of community resources
  • Attending agency meetings and being available for on-call services
  • Engaging in community education campaigns on mobile advocacy and crisis intervention
  • Conducting weekly support groups in the community or onsite
  • Providing specialized sexual assault advocacy services per OVAG and OAG-SAPCS grant guidelines, including legal assistance, safety planning, and coordination with law enforcement
  • Supporting victim liaisons at police departments and adjusting schedules as needed
  • Providing transportation assistance to remove barriers for survivors

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences or equivalent experience (minimum of 2 years in a related environment if only high school diploma)
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to provide accompaniments to hospitals within Southeast Harris County
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to build rapport with diverse populations quickly
  • Strong documentation skills for clear and concise record-keeping

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must pass a drug screening
  • Hold a current TX Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record; update annually
  • Maintain current auto liability insurance
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs and navigate stairs in emergency shelter settings
