YAI - Seeing Beyond Disability Is Hiring A Behavior Support Assistant

YAI is committed to supporting individuals of all ages experiencing crises by providing holistic programs that consider personal, familial, and community resources, especially for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and co-occurring mental health needs.

Join Our Team as a Bilingual Behavioral Support Assistant (BSA)!

We have three exciting openings across Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens. The BSA will work directly with individuals in their homes, workplaces, and daily environments, playing a vital role in their support network.

About the Position

The BSA role uniquely combines direct support with clinical leadership. Under the supervision of the Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS), responsibilities include:

  • Educating team members and families on habilitative strategies and Behavior Support Plans
  • Assisting with clinical assessments
  • Ensuring accurate data collection
  • Providing direct feedback and training to team members

Requirements

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related Human Services field
  • Minimum of 1 year experience supporting individuals with I/DD or behavioral challenges
  • Ability to manage crisis situations, demonstrate leadership, think clinically, and collaborate effectively
  • Comfort working in both home and community settings within assigned regions
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings
  • Willingness to assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as needed
  • Proficiency in computer skills (Excel, Word) and capable of teaching others
  • Availability to participate in the required 5-day NYS mandated OPWDD training during normal business hours
  • Pre-employment tuberculosis test
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including walking, handling objects, sitting, standing, and emergency interventions as outlined in individual plans
