Language Immersion 🌏
Our students graduate fluent in a second language and comfortable navigating international borders. In the younger grades, students alternate days between English and Spanish or Chinese classrooms, promoting immersive language acquisition from an early age.
Responsibilities
The Avenues Teaching Intern program (A.T.I.) is a one-year on-site teacher preparation initiative designed for early-career educators seeking hands-on experience in a Lower Division language immersion setting. Interns will:
- Be assigned dedicated teacher mentors across grades 1–2 and 3–5, gaining comprehensive classroom experience.
- Collaborate closely with grade-level colleagues on curriculum planning, classroom management, and student engagement.
- Participate in weekly intern meetings to explore key issues in elementary education, share experiences, and reflect on practice.
- Develop a professional portfolio and receive a certificate of completion to support future career growth.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate daily with colleagues to design learning outcomes, monitor student growth, and tailor instruction to individual needs.
- Create innovative curricula that challenge learners and cultivate problem-solving skills and social responsibility.
- Build strong connections with students and colleagues, fostering a welcoming, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
