Position Overview: Audit Intern 📝

We are seeking a motivated Audit Intern to join our Audit and Assurance team, gaining hands-on experience in financial statement audits and client service.

Responsibilities 🔍

  • Collaborate with team members to conduct financial statement audits, ensuring accuracy and reliability while upholding independence and objectivity.
  • Assist in understanding client-specific risks through reviewing financial results, external data, market trends, and client transactions, focusing on Japanese clients or companies needing strategic assistance in Japan.
  • Learn to prepare clear and structured audit documentation, capturing client processes and technology systems.
  • Execute and document testing of client controls and financial balances with guidance, applying appropriate standards and terminology.
  • Support the delivery of high-quality audits through task execution and professional client interactions.
  • Utilize Data & Analytics (D&A) tools such as Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Power BI, and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for data extraction, analysis, and audit procedures.

Qualifications & Skills 🎓

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Accountancy or equivalent program.
  • Current pursuit of CPA licensure requirements in the state of the office location, with academic credits completed prior to starting as an Audit Associate.
  • Additional academic credits required before degree completion and CPA eligibility after internship.
  • Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Fluent in English and Japanese, with the ability to use both languages professionally.
  • Coursework or minors in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics is a plus; experience with tools like Alteryx or Power BI is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards; understanding of GAAP.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, and aptitude for learning KPMG audit tools and client applications.
  • Strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills paired with sound professional judgment and skepticism.
  • Agile, flexible team player with leadership experience and project management skills are advantageous.
  • Must reside within a reasonable commute to the office and be able to travel locally, using personal transportation if necessary.

Our professionals typically work in-office at KPMG locations or client sites about three days weekly, with some travel and overnight stays depending on client needs.
