Job Description

The Judaic Studies Department and Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Binghamton University invite applications for a tenure-track position in Talmud and Rabbinics at the rank of Assistant Professor. 🌍

Ideal candidates will have expertise in the classical Jewish canon from late antiquity to the early Middle Ages, with a particular interest in the cultural context of the Near East or eastern Mediterranean. Proficiency in Hebrew and Aramaic is required, and knowledge of at least one additional relevant language (such as Ancient Greek, Arabic, or Latin) is desirable.

We value diverse methodological approaches, including Religious Studies, Literary Studies, History, Philosophy, and interdisciplinary perspectives. The successful candidate will develop courses covering the Bible in its historical context, rabbinic texts, and early Jewish history, and will actively participate in both the Judaic Studies Department and the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Religious Studies or a relevant field by August 17, 2026
  • Demonstrated expertise in the classical Jewish canon from late antiquity to the early Middle Ages
  • Proficiency in Hebrew and Aramaic
  • College or university teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Competency in an additional relevant language (such as Ancient Greek, Arabic, or Latin)
  • Research focus on the Near East or eastern Mediterranean
