JCP Downtown Is Hiring An Assistant Director
The Jewish Community Project (JCP) of Lower Manhattan, founded in 2002, is a vibrant, inclusive Jewish community hub dedicated to enriching Jewish life in downtown NYC. We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Director to support our Hebrew School Project and ensure its seamless daily operations.
About JCP
Based in Tribeca, JCP is an open, non-denominational organization fostering educational, cultural, social, and spiritual experiences for individuals and families. Currently, we serve approximately 300 downtown families and operate a prominent Early Childhood Center (ECC) and a thriving Hebrew School (the Hebrew School Project, or HSP).
Position Overview
We're looking for a highly organized, proactive Assistant Director to join the HSP team. The role involves overseeing day-to-day operations of our community-centered Hebrew school, which serves over 250 learners aged 3.5 to 18. Your mission is to support staff, foster an inclusive learning environment, and ensure the smooth running of the program, allowing the Director to focus on strategic growth.
What You’ll Do ✨
- Supervise Teaching Staff: Meet weekly with teachers, ensure curriculum alignment with school values, conduct classroom observations, and provide feedback.
- Liaise with Families: Maintain strong communication with parents, address curriculum questions, and support social, behavioral, or learning concerns.
- Program Management: Assist with event planning, including model seders, grade-specific events, Shabbat dinners, speakers, and field trips.
- Thought Partnership: Collaborate with the Director on visionary initiatives, including developing Israel-related curriculum.
- Curriculum Oversight: Review, update, and assist with weekly lesson plans to keep curriculum fresh and engaging.
Success Metrics 🎯
- Independently manage daily school operations, especially in the Director’s absence.
- Support and guide teaching teams effectively.
- Resolve classroom issues promptly and satisfactorily.
- Implement new initiatives to enhance parent involvement and community building.
- Receive positive feedback from students, families, and staff.
Requirements 📝
- Experience: 3+ years managing teams, ideally in Jewish educational settings, with experience working with children and parents from elementary to high school.
- Skills: Proficiency in Google Suite, basic Hebrew, extensive knowledge of Jewish texts, culture, holidays, and values across denominations.
- Attributes: Detail-oriented, proactive, flexible, open-minded, excellent interpersonal skills, and allergy awareness.
- Nice to Have: Background in child development, public speaking, Hebrew resource creation, prayer and Torah trope knowledge, first aid certification, CRM experience.

The Details
- Salary: $70,000 - $75,000 (commensurate with experience)
- Benefits: Fully subsidized health insurance, vision, dental, retirement plan, disability coverage, FSA, transit benefits
- Time Off: 2 weeks PTO, sick days, 10 U.S. holidays (including Friday after Thanksgiving), and various Jewish holidays
- Schedule: After-school hours, Monday-Thursday 1pm - 7pm in-person; remote mornings and Fridays; weekend work may be required for community events and Shabbat support
