Job Overview

Rosie’s Place, founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States, has evolved into a comprehensive community center. We provide not only shelter and meals but also extensive support, housing, and education services to thousands of women annually. Our organization relies solely on the generosity of individuals, foundations, and corporations, operating without city, state, or federal funding.

🌟 Opportunity

As an Advocate, you will play a vital role in empowering our guests by offering one-on-one assistance, information, and referrals that align with Rosie’s Place’s core values. Under supervision from the Advocacy Management Team, you will help guests build self-sufficiency and connect them to essential resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support guests by: addressing their individual needs, fostering self-sufficiency, responsibility, and independence
  • Assist with: housing, emergency shelter, transportation, food access, and clothing needs
  • Refer guests: to partner organizations, community programs, and government agencies
  • Provide information and referrals: for on-site services and external resources via phone and in person
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge: of community resources, regulations, and public benefits eligibility
  • Assess and prioritize: guest needs and develop realistic action plans
  • Record keeping: Maintain accurate support records in Salesforce while ensuring confidentiality
  • Participate in: weekly supervision, program meetings, and staff development activities
  • Intervene: in crises and emergencies with dignity and respect
  • Perform additional duties: as assigned by the Director of Advocacy Services and team members

Qualifications

  • Language skills: Bilingual in Spanish and English is required
  • Commitment: to social justice and Rosie’s Place mission
  • Experience: 2+ years in counseling, case management, or advocacy preferred
  • Crisis intervention: experience with trauma, homelessness, mental health, or substance use challenges
  • Problem-solving: Strong judgment and quick thinking skills
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively
  • Customer Service: Diplomatic, supportive communication style
  • Dependability: Flexibility and ability to work in a busy environment
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in computer systems; quick learner of new applications

Work Expectations

Our team is passionate and hands-on. The Advocate is expected to work onsite at Rosie’s Place, engaging regularly with staff, guests, and volunteers. While a hybrid schedule may be available, on-site presence is required for meetings, trainings, and community events. Safety protocols, including COVID-19 vaccination, are maintained according to current guidelines.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting salary ranges from $52,000 to $65,000, depending on experience. Rosie’s Place offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
