Position Summary 🔍

The Admissions Recruiter will dedicate approximately 20 hours per week engaging with individuals and groups via Zoom, phone, and in-person meetings who are interested in HUC’s programs. While supporting all graduate programs, the primary focus will be on the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music (DFSSM). The role involves collaboration within the Office of Recruitment and Admissions (ORA) to promote and support prospective students’ journey.

Key Responsibilities 🎯

Prospect Management

  • Conduct regular outreach and meetings with prospective students interested in DFSSM.
  • Engage with partner organizations, professional conferences, alumni, current students, and faculty to identify new prospects.
  • Collaborate with DFSSM leadership to guide prospective students through their discernment process.
  • Maintain detailed records of interactions, input data into ActiveCampaign and other reporting tools, and document input from DFSSM leadership and ambassadors.
  • Address questions regarding HUC’s curriculum, admissions processes, and policies with expertise—focusing on DFSSM.
  • Refer prospects to relevant programming, fellowships, and classes to prepare them for application.
  • Connect prospects with DFSSM mentors and alumni in the field.
  • Design communication opportunities to inform and support potential applicants about DFSSM programs.

Recruitment Activities 🚀

  • Partner with the DFSSM Director to develop and implement targeted recruitment strategies, including outreach to partner organizations, conferences, campus visits, and summer programs.
  • Attend recruitment events on campus, such as open houses or visits from prospective cantors.
  • Travel 2-4 times per semester (6-8 trips/year) for campus recruitment and Jewish conference participation.
  • Assist with programming arrangements for the DFSSM Director’s recruitment efforts.

Admissions Process Management 📝

  • Coordinate closely with the DFSSM Director and ORA to manage applications and admissions, providing support from initial inquiry through enrollment.
  • Arrange assessments for musicianship, Hebrew, and psychological evaluations for candidates.
  • Conduct admissions interviews and auditions, communicate decisions, and support admitted students through the enrollment process.

Supervision & Collaboration 🤝

The AVP of the Office of Recruitment and Admissions will supervise this role. The recruiter will regularly meet with the DFSSM Director to strategize recruitment efforts, support travel plans, and share updates on applicants. Participation in ORA team meetings and inter-recruiter discussions is expected to foster a collaborative environment.

Compensation 💰

The position offers a gross salary of $40,000, paid semi-weekly for an average of 20 hours/week. The contract is from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.

Qualifications & Experience 🎓

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Cantorial or rabbinical ordination from an accredited Jewish seminary preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of two years serving as a Jewish professional within North American Jewish communities
  • Experience in outreach, recruitment, or relationship-building roles preferred
