Position Summary 🌍

The Admissions Recruiter will dedicate approximately 20 hours per week engaging with prospective students via Zoom, phone, and in person—primarily supporting the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music (DFSSM). You will be a vital team member within the Office of Recruitment and Admissions (ORA), focusing on recruitment, outreach, and admissions for DFSSM.

Key Responsibilities 📋

Prospect Management

  • Conduct regular meetings and outreach to prospective students interested in DFSSM programs.
  • Engage with partner organizations, conferences, alumni, faculty, and current students to identify new prospects.
  • Collaborate with DFSSM leadership to guide prospective students through their discernment process.
  • Maintain detailed records of all interactions, inputting data into ActiveCampaign and other platforms.
  • Respond expertly to questions about HUC’s curriculum, admissions process, and policies.
  • Refer prospective students to relevant programming, fellowships, and classes.
  • Connect prospective students to mentors and alumni in the field.
  • Create engaging communications and opportunities for prospective applicants to learn more about DFSSM.

Recruitment 🚀

  • Collaborate with the DFSSM Director to develop and implement targeted recruitment strategies.
  • Participate in recruiting events on campus and beyond, including open houses, conferences, and visits.
  • Travel 2–4 times per semester (6–8 trips per year) to college campuses and Jewish gatherings as needed.
  • Support recruitment programming and logistical arrangements for the DFSSM Director.

Admissions Process 📝

  • Work closely with the DFSSM Director and ORA team to manage application processes.
  • Coordinate assessments such as musicianship, Hebrew, and psychological evaluations.
  • Conduct admissions interviews and auditions, communicate decisions, and support enrollment efforts.

Supervision & Team Collaboration 🤝

The AVP of the Office of Recruitment and Admissions will supervise this role. Regular meetings will be held with the DFSSM Director for strategy and updates. The recruiter will also participate in team meetings and share insights with fellow recruiters.

Compensation 💰

Starting July 1, 2025, this part-time position pays $40,000 gross annually, paid in semi-weekly installments. The contract concludes on June 30, 2026.

Qualifications 🎓

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Cantorial or rabbinical ordination from an accredited Jewish seminary is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years working as a Jewish professional within the North American Jewish community.
  • Experience in outreach, recruitment, or relationship-building roles is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 🧠

  • Ability to coach and mentor emerging leaders.
  • Familiarity with music education settings is a plus.
