Job Summary

This bilingual (English/Spanish: Speaking Only) position is assigned to the Alternative Education Department. Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of responsible secretarial and administrative support duties to assist an administrator, providing information and assistance to faculty, staff, parents, and the public. You may also exercise functional and technical oversight over clerical staff.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Equivalent to high school diploma (completion of the twelfth grade)
  • Supplemented by specialized secretarial coursework in office practices is desirable
  • Two years of progressive secretarial experience

Licensing & Certifications

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license
  • Appropriate vehicle operation insurance

Application Procedures

Applicants are required to submit a completed application, ideally with a résumé attached. Selected candidates will be invited to:

  • Pass a written examination (50%)
  • Followed by an oral examination on knowledge and skills (50%)

An eligibility list will be created and the top three candidates will be interviewed for final selection. The eligibility list remains valid for six months unless exhausted.

If accommodations are needed, applicants must inform us prior to testing. A bilingual and biliterate proficiency exam will be administered; passing the oral section is necessary to qualify for a 2.5% bilingual stipend.

Selected candidates must undergo fingerprinting and provide a negative tuberculosis (PPD) skin test clearance, valid for four years, obtainable through Santa Cruz Health Department, Doctors on Duty Clinic, or any physician/clinic of choice.
