Job Summary 📝
Under general supervision, this role involves delivering high-quality online courses on world religions, developing course materials, maintaining a positive virtual classroom environment, and providing timely feedback to support student success. You will utilize various tools and technologies to ensure an accessible, inclusive learning experience for all students.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities 📚
- Instruction & Assessment: Teaching assigned classes; grading quizzes, tests, and written assignments.
- Grades Management: Assigning final grades and providing grade justification sheets.
- Student Engagement: Holding regular virtual office hours to meet with students.
- Classroom Environment: Maintaining a safe, effective, and inclusive online learning environment.
- Adherence to Policies: Following all adjunct faculty training and procedural guidelines set by college administration.
- Additional Duties: Completing any other assigned responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required 🎓
- Education: Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in Religious Studies; or in Literature and Languages (e.g., Hebrew, Sanskrit), Philosophy, or Anthropology with specialization or at least 18 graduate hours in religion.
- Religious Knowledge: Transcripts must demonstrate training in major world religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism).
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Teaching Skills: Proven ability to convey complex concepts clearly and practically.
- Cultural Competency: Ability to recognize and respond to diverse student backgrounds, fostering active participation.
- Technical Proficiency: Computer literacy and experience integrating technology into teaching methods.
Preferred Qualifications 🌟
- A Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution in the relevant discipline.
- Two to five years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
- Credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS) are met.
Physical Demands 💪
This role requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods, present oral lectures, walk, bend, lift, reach, and occasionally carry items over 25 pounds. Operating office equipment such as copiers, faxes, and telephones is also necessary. All employees must adhere to proper safety standards.
